Did you know that Toronto is one of the most popular filming destinations in the world? Toronto is often used as a substitute for American cities. Movies that you might be surprised to know are filmed here: Cocktail, Total Recall, Good Will Hunting, Star Trek the Next Generation and Suicide Squad to name but a few!
Toronto’s Most Popular Locations
Movies are filmed all over Toronto! Casa Loma is often used for American mansions. The University of Toronto has been the scene of movies as diverse as Harold and Kumar go to White Castle and Robocop! Yonge Street seems to get blown up on a regular basis and the Distillery District, the Financial District and the Royal York Hotel are also go to locations. A favorite with our kids was Tiny Pretty things which was partly filmed at the Boulevard Club.
What’s Filming Right Now?
There are a number of TV shows and movies filming in Toronto right now. Keep an eye out for stars. Some are even looking for extras so you can be a star instead of just spotting them.
Slumbertown
Slumbertown is a big budget production coming to Netflix. It’s directed by Francis Lawrence who is also known for The Hunger Games and stars Jason Momoa. What’s more, they are looking for extras. So, if you fancy getting in to Hollywood, this could be your big break. Especially if you have “interesting” features. They are looking for the following:
Prominent Nose/Eyes/Ears
Distinct Freckles, Hair Colours or Jawlines
Square Chins
Anything Unique!

Clarice is based on Jodie Foster’s character in Silence of the Lambs and takes place a year after the events in the movie. Be quick, however, as filming wraps up at the end of this month, having started in October.
The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4
Finally, a Canadian classic returns for a fourth season.
