Amenities
Going car-free has never been easier than it is in Bloor West Village. This neighbourhood is highly walkable and cyclist-friendly, with bike trails and clean sidewalks that can lead you two either Jane Station or Runnymede Station if you need the TTC. The neighbourhood is also a less than 20-minute drive to Pearson Airport (or you can take the nearby UP Express at Bloor & Dundas; only 9 minutes to reach downtown Toronto!) and is close to the highways for longer trips.
This neighbourhood’s walkability provides residents with everyday ease as they can run errands, shop, dine, or drop their kids off at school all on foot! The neighbourhood is dotted with recreational amenities, including many parks and tennis courts. There’s diverse selection of shops to choose from on Bloor Street – many of which are dog-friendly. Bike lanes have been installed on Bloor Street to encourage more residents to cycle vs. driving.
From Catholic schools to public elementary and high schools, residents have a lot of choice in this neighbourhood, including highly-ranking schools such as Ursula Franklin Academy and Humberside Collegiate Institute. Bloor West’s public schooling is some of the best in Toronto; Runnymede Junior and Senior Public School ranks at the top in the area, with a 9.4/10 Fraser Institute rating.
Activities
Bloor West Village has a high number of parks throughout the neighbourhood. George Chater Park, Neil McLellan Park, and Kennedy-Margdon Parkette offer small green spaces or playgrounds for children to play.
A central hub for Bloor West Village families and dog lovers, Beresford Park includes a dog park, playground, splash pad, and an ice rink in the winter for all to enjoy.
Then there is High Park, just a short walk from Bloor West Village. The city’s largest park boasts a petting zoo, off-leash dog area, outdoor pool, indoor ice rink, splash pad, wading pool, playgrounds, soccer fields, ball diamonds, and much more. Toronto theatre group CanStage presents the much-loved show “Shakespeare in the Park” here every summer.
In the summer, pop into some of the wonderful bakeries and gourmet shops on Bloor Street W. to grab some picnic items and then head to a local park for a picnic or bike along the Humber River trails. In the colder months, we recommend filling up a thermos with hot chocolate and tobogganing at a park or ice-skating on a neighbourhood ice rink.
Real Estate
Throughout Bloor West Village real estate you will find semi-detached home and detached homes averaging three or four bedrooms on 25 to 30-foot lots. The majority of the homes here are Victorian-era with plenty of character.
There is the occasional modern new build as well, as many homeowners are updating Bloor West Village real estate with basements, additional floors, and other remodelling efforts inside and out. There are very few homes for rent in this neighbourhood as most are owner-occupied.
